THE MYSTERIOUS FOURTH “C” Known for decades only by diamond cutters and diamond professionals,
the mystery of diamond proportions has been unlocked by modern
technology. With the aid of the latest state of the art equipment
and software, Sarasota Gem Lab is able to visually demonstrate,
photograph and describe the effect of
different diamond proportions on brilliance, fire and
scintillation.
Instrumentation like the IdealScope developed by
Garry Holloway of Australia and Hearts & Arrows
viewers developed by Japanese gemologists allow the light return
perfomance and optical symmetry to be viewed firsthand by the
layperson & gemologist alike. The cutting edge DiamCalc software developed by the Russian
scientists Sergey Sivovolenko of Octonus and Yurii Shelementiev
of Moscow State University (among others) quantifies this light
